ATATÜRK SUPREME COUNCIL FOR CULTURE,

LANGUAGE AND HISTORY



The Atatürk Supreme Council for Culture, Language and History was founded on August 11th, 1983, by the law (No: 2876) prepared to meet the requirements stated in the 134th article of the Turkish Constitution.

The goal of the Atatürk Supreme Council for Culture, Language and History is to scientificaly research Atatürk’s principals and revolutions, Turkish culture, Turkish history and Turkish language and furthermore to publicise and disseminate the outcomes of researches through publications.  The Atatürk Supreme Council is made up of the following four joint institutions: Atatürk Research Center (founded in 1983), Turkish Language Institution (founded in 1932), Turkish History Institution (founded in 1931), and Atatürk Culture Center (founded in 1983).

Prof. Dr. Sadýk Tural (Literary Scholar, Literary Historian) has been the chairman of the Atatürk Supreme Council for Culture, Language and History since 2000. Other responsibilities of Atatürk Supreme Council are:

To stand determined for the preservation of Atatürk’s principles and revolutions, lasting  existence of  the Turkish Republic, and making necessary provisions for the welfare and happiness of individuals and  society,

To make utmost efforts to raise our national culture to the higher level than where   contemporary civilizations stand today.

To research and document Turkish culture, language, and history with scientific methods and to have all the material and moral cultural values passed on to the future generations in a constant, organized and comprehensive way.

To work for the care and protection of national unity, security, national moral values and traditions. 

To research the real beauty and richness of the Turkish language and to initiate studies  to elevate its quality to the desired level  among other languages of the world.

To undertake studies of Turks’ and Turkish history, with related subjects, their contribution to the world’s civilization, and to disseminate the results of these studies.

Since 1983, Atatürk Supreme Council and its four institutions have produced 2250 books, 750 serials and 20 CD’s.

Aside from these publishing activities  the Atatürk Supreme Council and its four joint institutions have organized around 3500 national and international conferences, panels, symposia and congresses.

The Atatürk Supreme Council opened an office to plan and organize all activities of the ICANAS 38. A national organizing committee was formed by Turkish academacians from different universities; and experts in their fields were made responsible for the 13 main topics chosen.
